My Strength Journey

This is the story of my Strength Journey and what inspired me to create this website for all of you. Plus, how I gained the experience and knowledge to create the Mathias Method Strength System.

Ryan J Mathias My Strength Journey

How It All Began

My Strength Journey started as a child, when my dad started to have my two older brothers and I do, what he called, PT’s (Physical Training).

My dad is a firefighter and he wanted to make sure his sons grew up healthy and strong, so he told us to do 50 Push-Ups, 50 Sit-Ups, and 100 Jumping Jacks every day. Looking back, this was not very much to do and would only take maybe 20 minutes if we were slow (which we were).

However, my dad was almost always at work to support our large family of 4 boys (the older 3 and my little brother) and my mom. We hated doing this easy task of PT’s, so we would really only do them whenever my dad came home for a day or two from work.

This made for a very infrequent training regiment, but it planted the seed of the importance of strength and fitness.

“…it planted the seed of the importance of strength and fitness.”

The Next Step

The next step in my strength journey actually came on my own.

I had been doing martial arts for a few years and in it we would do different variations of Push-Ups. I was quite good at doing push-ups at this time (likely from my dad’s initial push) and actually started to enjoy them. We would do 8 variations of push-ups in training that included standard, close, on knuckles, on fingertips, and on our wrists facing 4 different directions (this was to build wrist strength for martial arts).

These were a fun challenge to me and I had the goal then of becoming STRONGER, so I started to do 70 push-ups (I skipped 1 wrist push-up variation that I didn’t like) everyday when I was about 11. I did this for about 6 months around the same time my dad got a bench press and weight set put in our garage.

“I had the goal then of becoming stronger, so I started to do 70 push-ups everyday when I was about 11.”

Again, whenever he was home he would have my older two brothers and I go do some bench press and dumbbell work. Generally it was 4×10 on everything done in a circuit fashion.

I had the wrong mindset though and thought that weights were too hard and would make me too stiff like bodybuilders. After a while my brothers began weight training at school with their football program, and we stopped training at home.

Pushing For More

Daily 30 Push Up exercise on volcanoEven through the little weight training we did I made sure to do my 70 Push-Ups, because I wanted to get stronger. I didn’t want to be BIG, I just wanted more and more strength. So after 70 Push-Ups became too easy for me, I began implementing more push-up techniques until I had a very long and grueling push-up regiment that I would then do only twice a week.

“I didn’t want to be big, I just wanted more and more strength.”

I would start with doing 1-15-1 Push-Ups in which I would do 1 Push-Up, rest for maybe 10-20 seconds, then do 2, 3, 4…up to 15 and back down again. That equated to 225 total push-ups in under about 15 minutes!

Afterwards I would do my, no longer 7 but, now 10 varied sets of push-ups which, over time, went from 10 to 20 to 30 push-ups each round. I would even do 5 standard push-ups as fast as I could immediately after each round of the different variations. THAT WAS 575 PUSH-UPS twice a week (Monday and Saturday)!!!

Now, with that amount of volume unfortunately I would not do complete push-ups for most of them. Too many were only half reps that I would not lockout, but more so try to pump out at the bottom half (I did have to make it at least half way up to count them).

This was not done to focus on the chest, but more just done because I had weak triceps that could not keep up with the volume.

I also added in some leg and ab work which I did even CRAZIER amounts of volume every Wednesday and Friday.

For legs I would do some old school martial arts bodyweight techniques in which started with 500-750 knee bends. Knee bends are where you grab your ankles, then bend your knees until your bottom bounces off your ankles and then extend your legs again. It was a simple, but painful exercise that I did to absolute failure of 500-750 reps first thing.

Looking back I see how bad that was for me, because my back was completely rounded throughout the entire range of motion and my ankles became tight due to the constant bouncing.

Next I would crouch down and do little hops in a crouched position for 100-200 reps doing 2 rounds. That would really burn my quads, cause damage to my knees and also make for even tighter ankles. I would finish with some bodyweight squats until I felt like puking.

Decline Abdominal Crunches 1

From there I would do different ab exercises for about 20 minutes.

I did those 4 workouts every week, not including my 5 mile run every Sunday.

Now it is great that I was training hard, but these workouts really just tore my body apart. Oh, did I mention that I would do all my workouts with a full body plastic sweatsuit on that was under my sweatshirt and sweatpants?

I also didn’t drink much water and almost never ate any fat! My idea was that if I ate fat, I would get fat. I even cut out the fat I saw on lunch meat!

“I would do all my workouts with a full body plastic sweatsuit on that was under my sweatshirt and sweatpants.”

I Was Doing It All Wrong

Again, my goal was strength yet I had no idea of how to get there. I would do all this training volume, yet I was still not getting stronger or making any gains. In fact I was losing weight though I wanted to gain it!

“I would do all this training volume, yet I was still not getting stronger or making any gains.”

This training lasted from when I was 12 until I was about 16 and a half. I was really great at doing bodyweight exercises, however I was not getting any stronger, or bigger.

My goal was to weight 202 pounds just like Rocky Balboa (I loved the Rocky movies), though I was stuck at 180-190. I only started doing what I really needed when I was 16…

Weight Training Changed Everything

When I was a Junior in High School I signed up for weight training as one of my elective classes. We had 40 minutes worth of training time before the next class started. So, with the limited time I just did what I wanted.

Luckily, what I wanted was to Squat for strong legs in order to improve my martial arts stances. I had a goal and started to write my own workouts at this point.

Monday I would bench press,  but again it was 4×10 on everything done in a circuit fashion, always to failure. This was not very beneficial and I was stuck with a 215 bench press max for a long time.

Tuesdays were for Power Cleans, which I was pretty good at and quickly worked up to a 275 pound power clean at only 190 pounds bodyweight.

Then Wednesdays and Fridays were Squats, with the occasional deadlifts. I would also progress very quickly with my squat strength to where after only 2 months of training I squatted 350 to what I believed at the time was full depth, but it was more like just above parallel.

I had no one to show me how to do any of these lifts properly, but looking back I did fairly well with proper depth and technique for a beginner.

Also, that same week I did my first ever deadlift max attempt and did 405 pretty easily.

“I was stuck with a 215 bench press max for a long time…where after only 2 months of training I squatted 350…and my first ever deadlift max attempt I did 405 pretty easily.”

I was quick to jump up in strength once I started to do the right things, but still didn’t gain weight until I stopped doing my home training regiment about half way through Junior year of high school. At that point I started to focus solely on weight training as I saw the benefits.

I also started eating some more fats at this point, but my nutrition was far from perfect.

My First Strength Goal

480 squat in maui hawaiiAs my strength continued to improve for squats I started to formulate my first solid strength goal.

In the weight room the football coach had a board up which had the high school lifting records on it. It had records for Squat, Bench Press and Power Clean (which was set and held by my older brother Tanner his Junior year, who power cleaned 330 lbs shattering the old 305 lb record). It had the current football team lifts under the records as well to keep track of the team’s progress.

I never played football, though all my other brothers did. I saw that the current team did not have the squat strength that I did, in which I would squat 405 pretty regularly. So I asked the coach if he would put my name on the board for some recognition of my hard work. He said it was only for football players. That made me very angry, but I held in my rage telling myself that then I’m going to break the school record so that he is forced to put me up there!

The Squat record was set at 505 lbs by a very strong and athletic 250 lb athlete some years prior to me. I was only about 200 lbs at the time, but I had a 420 squat max, so I knew I could do it!

So there it was, my first goal was to squat not just 505, but 525 lbs while only weighing 202 lbs just like Rocky. I would go into the weight room and first thing, without any warm-up, load up 315 on the squat rack and do 4×10 with it. I would try to add weight every week, but I would only progress to 335 before I could no longer do 10 reps.

“…my first goal was to squat not just 505, but 525 lbs while only weighing 202 lbs…”

I never thought to do fewer reps with higher weight, because I thought 4×10 was the best thing you could do after reading bodybuilding magazines and my previous training experiences at home.

So I was stuck and stayed stuck.

I Was Stuck

Again, I was doing the wrong thing to progress me towards my goals by never changing things up. It wasn’t until summer came around that I got my own gym membership and started to train on my own time that I began to move forward again.

I still had a bodybuilding routine style with tremendous amounts of volume, but I did realize that I needed to do some more heavy training. I would train 4 days per week doing my crazy volume work one day, which included doing every single exercise and machine in the gym for a given muscle group for 4×10-20, then do one heavier day where I did sets of 8, 6, 4, 2, 6 reps on EVERYTHING (even things like curls and flies).

I would literally do every exercise I knew how to do for chest, triceps and shoulders one day, then legs another day which included some deadlifts. I almost never trained back, other than deadlifts.

“I would literally do every exercise I knew how to do for chest, triceps and shoulders one day, then legs another day.”

I also bench pressed 225 for the first time and even got up to 240 before getting injured. It was on one of my heavy upper body training days that I partially tore my left pectoral muscle doing 80 lb flyes for my 2 rep top set. There is still a hole in my left pec that you can feel, and it has never been the same.

However, I now know how to take care of it so it rarely bothers me. I made some progress doing this type of work, but it still wasn’t what I needed for my goal. I also stopped going to the gym entirely for about 2 months to recover.

Defeat

mind over body mathias methodThen Senior year came and I was back in the weight room ready to push hard towards the record. I became a little smarter over time, but was still doing the same form of training that never really got me anywhere.

It all came down to one day during my final semester that I squatted 435 for 2 with the excessive help of a spotter, in which I realized that I was not going to reach my goal by the end of the year.

I kneeled down and took a few minutes to feel bad for myself, before standing back up, taking the belt off and started doing things I never did before. I started training some back and bicep exercises on the days I was supposed to squat.

“It all came down to one day during my final semester…I realized that I was not going to reach my goal by the end of the year. I kneeled down and took a few minutes to feel bad for myself, before standing back up, taking the belt off and started doing things I never did before.”

I knew my legs needed a rest and I should probably work the muscles I never had worked before. I started doing bodybuilding and left my 525 goal in the past. I trained like a bodybuilder for the rest of the semester, with the occasional squats of 4×10 with 315 or 275 for 30 reps just for fun, but never pushing for strength.

When summer came I was back in another gym where I would go 6 days per week, training each muscle group twice a week. I learned a lot reading about training during this period and learning to train smarter towards strength.

I stopped bench pressing to do only dumbbell work for about 3 months, just because I never liked the bench press. Then I realized how important of an exercise it was for my strength, so I retaught myself how to do it somewhat properly.

I was progressing again in all my lifts and it felt great! I never really deadlifted regularly, but after training with it for a few months I did my first ever 500lb deadlift inside of an Anytime Fitness (they HATED me there). I also squatted 445 and benched around 250.

All through junior college I would learn more and more on my own about training as I switched around to different gyms, always watching videos and reading about strength training.

My goal of reaching a 525 squat was back! Then I found Conjugate Training…

My Broken Back

Conjugate is a constantly varying form of training in which you focus on lifts related to the main lifts (Squat, Bench Press, Deadlift) yet train different areas of the lift. I LOVED this training and especially loved lifting with chains and bands!

I would even carry my own 150lbs worth of chains into gyms just to be able to train with them! I was hooked!

The heavy work was great too and I became very strong with this training. The problem was, my training was never really complete. So I would train all different ways, but I always tended to push things to the limit where I was not able to properly recover from it.

Inevitably, I got injured. I had multiple times in which my hips would not let me squat due to pain, or my shoulder was bugging me. There was always something that was hurt.

That all changed when I broke my back in 2012 at age 20. The injury came during a large martial arts demonstration in which I was doing something I had never done before and had no business doing.

I weighed 20 pounds more than usual (about 220 lbs) from all the powerlifting training, and did a running dive 10+ feet in the air where I landed all my weight forwards (improper falling technique) during the demo.

I did not realize anything was wrong though until I tried to get up the next day and I literally could not move without extreme pain. I had to roll out of bed and stumble my way through the house.

It came down to a crushed vertebra (T11) and 2 crushed/bulging discs (T10 & T11). I was told to lay in bed for 6 weeks and then do physical therapy.

My activity greatly decreased, I became even more overweight (about 235) and was in pain constantly while going to school and doing daily chores (I was hard-headed and didn’t take time off of school).

This injury was probably one of the best things that could have happened to me because it taught me the importance of recovery, mobility, and balance in training. I learned a lot during my time in physical therapy and was able to gain a better understanding of how to progress going forward.

“This injury was probably one of the best things that could have happened to me, because it taught me the importance of recovery, mobility and balance in training.”

Recovery and Change

I realized I needed to make major changes into becoming a complete athlete again in which I could balance my strength with athleticism.

I began to warm-up properly, train smarter for my recovery, eat better, and do my proper mobility work so I could still perform well in my sport (martial arts). I greatly improved my athleticism and strength together to where I could jump on a 54 inch box from a stand still and squat 450!

I was back on top weighing only 200 pounds! I also gained the desire to change my major from Business to Kinesiology (Exercise Science) as I moved onto CSU-Sacramento from my Junior College.

While in college I learned a tremendous amount of information that I had all wrong before! I learned nutrition, biomechanics, human kinetics, training programming, the science behind exercise and training and so much more! It was a world that I LOVED and I’m so happy I did it.

From that I decided I wanted to put my new found knowledge into an easily accessible FREE website that I can use to help other people not have to go through the troubles I did.

I wanted to do something that would really help people and help to Change The World. With that mindset, the Mathias Method was born!

I created a website that I could have used on my journey to reach my strength goals. A site that I could have learned the proper way to build my body into what I wanted it to be.

I hope to prevent others from making the same mistakes as I did. Now I am dedicated to helping others gain the strength required to surpass their goals and change their world!

Fixing Joint Pain and Correcting Muscular Imbalances

Do you have joint pain? Does it hurt to get out of bed in the morning? Is your shoulder still bothering you from an old injury? Do you know that you can likely fix your nagging pains? Let me teach you how to fix your joint pain and correct muscular imbalances.

PRINT This Article

“Muscle and Joint Pain can be one of the most bothersome forms of injury…because it just never seems to go away.”

Muscle and Joint Pain can be one of the most bothersome forms of injury; not because of the pain level, but because it just never seems to go away. Everyday it seems to remind you of its presence, and can stop you from even trying things that you want to do for fear of making the pain worse. What most people don’t know, or realize, is that most of these issues can be fixed rather easily. Effective pain management strategies are key to breaking this cycle.

The cause of most muscle and joint pain is often due to either a muscular imbalance, or muscular dysfunction. A muscular imbalance is when you have a greater pull on one side of a joint, compared to the other side of pull; making for a misalignment of that joint, which then leads to muscular fatigue as well as joint pain.

“You can either feel a little pain everyday for a long time, or feel a lot of pain over a few minutes and be healed.”

This can happen in any of your joints, but the easiest example to understand is likely the elbow joint. The elbow joint can only flex and extend in a linear movement plane. To keep it simple, the biceps muscle group flexes the arm while the triceps muscle group extends the arm. Each muscle has a certain amount of pull depending on its strength. While at rest, both of these muscles pull on the elbow joint (Ulna & Humorous) towards their distinct direction. If one of these muscle groups has a much stronger pull than the other, due to it’s overall strength in comparison to the other, it will cause the opposing muscle to fatigue faster and start to pull the joint out of place. If the bones are moved out of optimal position, then they start grinding against one another in the joint causing damage and pain. This can also lead to muscular dysfunction due to changing the angle of pull of the muscles.

Lets say the biceps muscle group has a weaker pull on the elbow joint due to a lack of training volume. The bicep will be constantly fatigued as its fighting against triceps trying to pull it back in place while being pulled out of its optimal position, on top of that. This increases muscular dysfunction which is when a muscle does not function properly due to fatigue, damage or underuse. Weak muscles fatigued very quickly and can no longer perform their function optimally leading to further damage.

Damaged muscles occur from trauma, such as a tear or impact. Underused muscles are muscles that are under utilized causing them to fatigue quickly. To avoid muscular dysfunction make sure to train all areas of your body to stay healthy and moving properly. When you push you should also pull. If your pull is not as strong as your push then try to make up for it by doing double the training volume with pulling motions to stay healthy. Do the same for other opposing movements or muscle groups.

“So how do we correct it?”

Now that we know about some of the problems associated with muscular dysfunction, how do we correct it? Correcting most muscular dysfunction is fairly simple, while some take a lot more attention. For many basic muscle and joint pains, you can simply just start by making sure to train all muscle groups surrounding the joint relatively equally. For the elbow joint this means making sure to do plenty of curling motions if you are doing a lot of tricep work or pressing movements and visa versa. For the shoulder make sure to do a lot of rowing or pulling movements along with all of your pressing movements and visa versa. You want to try and double the total training volume of pulling motions versus pressing motions. This will require less weight, but more sets and reps. Also, do the same with other joints such as the hips, knees, ankles and wrists. To improve joint health, you need to add joint supplements like JointXL Plus or Doctors Best MSM which promote comfort, mobility & flexibility in your joints.

Always train the weaker muscle group more to help build it up. Sometimes just training those underutilized muscles will fix the muscular dysfunction or joint pain, while other issues may need more attention.

“Always train the weaker muscle group more to help build it up.”

Along with training all muscle groups, one of the first things you should do when correcting muscular dysfunction is loosening tight muscles through massage or stretching techniques. If a muscle is tight and causes you pain, it is likely fatigued and under stress, so stretching it would be putting you at risk of tearing that muscle. The best thing to do in this situation is massage or use self-myofascial release techniques to help relax the muscle while mobilizing it to function properly until the pain goes away. With this you also want to loosen the other surrounding muscle groups that may be pulling it out of position so that the muscle will be more willing to relax. Then train the weak muscle group to improve its strength and function. For muscles that are simply tight, you can also utilize self-myofascial release techniques or simply stretch that muscle, telling it to relax or release. This will not make the muscle weaker but rather improve its function.

“The most important piece of decreasing joint pain is improving your structural integrity.”

The most important piece of decreasing joint pain is improving your structural integrity. Structural integrity is placing the bones and joints in proper anatomical position so that they move smoothly about each other within the joint. This is the most beneficial piece to improving your joint pain. Proper alignment can only occur, however, if you have the necessary mobility and strength in the surrounding muscle groups to stabilize the bones so they are in their optimal position, even during movement. At rest we may feel fine, but after adding a load or doing a weighted movement the overly powerful muscle groups may pull the bones out of proper anatomical position causing pain. The only way to correct this is through loosening, or lengthening the tight powerful muscles while also building strength in the weaker muscle groups so that they work together relatively equally. This will take time, especially for chronic pain, but it can likely be fixed with proper dedication.

It just takes a little bit of time everyday for you to make a difference in your joint and muscle health.

So, with just a little bit of effort and dedication to treating your nagging pains everyday you too can be pain free! It just takes a little bit of time everyday for you to make a difference in your joint and muscle health. Take 10-20 minutes everyday and work towards mobilizing your tight, dysfunctioning or damaged tissues in order to become pain free. Also, if you have muscles that need to be strengthened, try working on improving their strength and function everyday by doing light exercise focusing on getting the muscle to work. You can use a band or light dumbbell and try doing 100 total repetitions of some exercise that focuses on working that muscle specifically. Do it slow and under control which will force the muscle to activate better. This will greatly improve your muscular function and overall strength as you will likely avoid a future injury by doing this. Work on improvement everyday and control the things that are holding you back, such as daily pain. Go make a difference in your health today and feel no pain!

“This will greatly improve your muscular function and overall strength…”

As a final note, realize that much of this is going to hurt even more than it does on a daily basis. When correcting most muscular injuries or soft tissue dysfunction you must withstand greater pain to correct it. You can either feel a little pain everyday for a long time, or feel a lot of pain for 10 minutes a day over the course of a week or so and be healed. The choice is yours…

Start your Training NOW: What Level Am I?

Note: This article does not present a cure for arthritic patients nor chronically damaged joint pain that is beyond repair. However, some pain may be relieved in damaged areas by following the steps presented. Always consult your doctor before beginning any exercise or therapy program.

Level 1B | Beginner Strength Training Program

This is a beginner level program for anyone starting to build strength in a gym setting. Presented is a 13+ week program for anyone who has little to no resistance training experience.

How to Squat for Powerlifting Strength 2

About This Program

Level 1 begins by teaching a routine warm-up that promotes proper movement patterns and some basic strength exercises that will most effectively build full body strength. Here we will build a foundation that increases strength using the most effective exercises.

With few exercises, the focus will be on practicing these new motions to become a safe and effective lifter. It is also a very adaptable level of training that allows you to train two, three or four days a week. The more training days you utilize (2x, 3x, or 4x weekly), out of the given options, the more effective the program will be.

After completing this program you will have built a strong enough base to progress forward in your journey.

Program Details

Presented in this program are three training days per week, each focused upon one or two strength movements. You will begin by practicing only the most effective exercises enabling you to learn proper movement patterns while building strength. As your neuromuscular proprioception, or muscle activation, increases you will then start to use more basic strength exercises that will build a strong foundation to lay your goals upon.

For each training session make sure that you do the proper mobility and warm-up drills to increase the training’s effectiveness. After completing the training session always remember to mobilize your tight tissues for at least 10+ minutes, with each stretch lasting longer than 2 minutes. It will take time for your body to adapt to all the new stimuli, but you will continuously be growing stronger in the process.

Also, after you have completed the first four weeks of training you are encouraged to try new things. Always complete the listed exercises first, but then feel free to try 1 or 2 more exercises that will help you gain strength in a similar way to the previous work. Just remember to be safe and have fun!

Weeks 1-4

Goal: Learning the basic motions and activating the correct muscles.

Weeks 5-12

Goal: Practice basic motions and improve body positioning.

Weeks 13+

Weeks 1 & 3

Day 1 – Squat / Deadlift Training

Technique Work

Slow Box Squats                                                   3 x 5

  • To learn proper movement patterns, descend down for 4 seconds and pause on the box while maintaining tightness for 2 seconds before ascending at a normal pace. Use a light weight.

Main Lifts

Box Squat                                                              5 x 5

  • Try to increase the weight used each week, or even throughout the training session. Maintain perfect form and only increase the weight if you can still control the movement. Do not drop onto the box. Sit softly and pause before ascending.

Controlled Conventional Deadlift                   2 x 5

  • To learn proper movement patterns, ascend at a normal pace, hold the top position for two seconds, descend for 4 seconds and pause on the floor before starting again. Maintain perfect form, stay tight and keep the bar against you. Utilize an overhand grip as long as you can without decreasing performance. Use a light weight.

Conventional Deadlift                                       3 x 5

  • Try to increase the weight used each week, or even throughout the training session. Maintain perfect form and only increase the weight if you can still control the movement. Do not drop the weight at any point as you descend. Touch the weight to the floor lightly and pause before ascending.

Mobility Work                                                     10+ min.

  • You can foam roll any tight or sore muscles or just stretch the muscles used. Hold each stretch for at least 2 minutes but be active by moving through the tight positions under control. Go to the Mobility Tab at MathiasMethod.com to find out more.

Day 2 – Bench Press / Military Press Training

Technique Work

Controlled Closegrip Bench Press                    3 x 5

  • To learn proper movement patterns, descend for 4 seconds and pause on your chest for 2 seconds before pressing back to the top at a normal pace. Keep your elbows in line with your wrists and pulled in close to your sides. Use a light weight.

Main Lifts

Closegrip Bench Press-Paused                          5 x 5

  • Try to increase the weight used each week, or even throughout the training session. Maintain perfect form and only increase the weight if you can still control the movement. Pause the bar on your chest for 2 seconds before pressing.

Controlled Military Press                                   2 x 5

  • To learn proper movement patterns, press the bar overhead at a normal pace, pause at lockout and descend for 4 seconds. Keep your elbows in line with your wrists, directly under the bar. Use a light weight.

Military Press                                                       3 x 5

  • Try to increase the weight used each week, or even throughout the training session. Maintain perfect form and only increase the weight if you can still control the movement. Do not arch your back. Be sure to push your head through to finish the lift.

Strength Training Programs >>

Level 1 – Weight Training Program for Beginners

This is a beginner level strength program for anyone starting to build strength in a gym setting. Presented is a 13+ week weight training program for beginners, or anyone who has little to no resistance training experience.

Level 1 begins by teaching a routine warm-up that promotes proper movement patterns and some basic strength exercises that will most effectively build full body strength. Here we will build a foundation that increases strength using the most effective exercises.

With a few exercises, the focus will be on practicing these new motions to become a safe and effective lifter. It is also a very adaptable level of training that allows you to train two, three or four days a week. The more training days you utilize (2x, 3x, or 4x weekly), out of the given options, the more effective the program will be. After completing this program you will have built a strong enough base to progress forward in your strength journey.

About This Weight Training Program for Beginners

Presented in this beginner weight training program are four training days per week, each focused upon one strength motion. You will begin by practicing only the most effective strength training exercises enabling you to learn proper movement patterns while building strength.

Always complete the listed exercises first, but then feel free to try 1 or 2 more strength building exercises that will help you gain strength in a similar way to the previous work. Just remember to be safe and have fun!

Weeks 1-4:

daily 30 on top of the world morning sunrise

How To Get Started

To start, do the Daily 30 once every day for at least one week. After you can properly do one round of the three exercises consistently each day, do two rounds each day. To continue progressing, add a round of the Daily 30 every 1-2 weeks until you can do 5 rounds in a row without extreme difficulty. Then you will be prepared to go to level 1 of the Mathias Method.

If preferred, you can stay on level 0 as long as you would like but always push for progression by adding a round every 1-2 weeks until you no longer can do anymore. To avoid overuse injuries, only do more than two rounds every other day. This means you will do three rounds or more of the Daily 30 only 3-4 days per week. On the days in between, only do one or two rounds to stay consistent.

“…simple and effective program…improve your strength, flexibility, posture, blood flow, cardiovascular health and relieve built up tension.”

This is a simple and effective starter program that will keep you growing stronger and promote a healthy lifestyle. These movements improve your strength, flexibility, posture, blood flow, cardiovascular health and relieve built up tension.

Adding To It

It would be valuable to your health to also work on your mobility after doing your Daily 30 rounds.

If you would like to add to your Daily 30 routine it would be beneficial to your recovery and weight loss to walk every day. The best time to do this for weight loss would be in the morning before you eat anything. Just wake up, grab a bottle of water and start walking in one direction for 30 minutes, then go back the same way you came trying to beat your time. You can walk or jog back but be faster. For standard recovery and health do this at anytime of the day.

No matter what, commit to yourself. If you say you are going to do something every day, do it every day. No excuses. If you want change, then make it. Don’t let anything stand in your way on your journey to greatness. The time is now!
